97% Fat Free Myth
Found yourself thrilled to see the 97% FAT FREE Ice Cream label. It is a ticket for low fat diet and you are on your way to skimpy waist line, 6 packs and crease-less pants? Soon your shopping cart is filled with Low Fat food and checking out more food that your gut can chew.
Oh well, I am no angel. In my 30s, coupled with my ACL reconstructions, I find wearing socks and tying shoe lace, these days, is getting harder. I have fat around my tummy and other places of my body. But I do not misunderstand the Fat Factor in life.
Recently I encountered a few moments with friends on their fat intake.
"No f**king way I am eating that crap" and he scraped away the roast chicken skin before continuing "It is fatty, full of fat sh*t".
Same goes with natural gravy. Noodle. Rice. "Ain't going to eat that sh*t".
"but that is the best part of the roast, mate!"... I was in disbelieved.
He got a point though, but to a point. It is tantamount to vitamins are good therefore it is better if I gulped the whole bottle.
I observed and could not help but convinced, there are a lot common people out there still misconceived about what actually make them a fat arse. Why? It is the education - with simple science one could easily understand the concept of becoming a far arse. Eating fat from Roasted Chicken Skin on Friday and Saturday night does not make you fatter than drinking 4 schooners of beer a day.
Whatever you eat, except inedible stuff like shoe polish, the body digesting system will to convert the food into energy with is measured in, what you may find very familiar, Calories. Unused energy will, then, be converted into Fat and stored on at the common parts of the body, namely the gut, thighs, neck and arms. Yes fat intake from food can make one fatter but not necessarily fatter than those who frequented the local pub everyday and down a routine 5 glasses of beer.
"But I only had sandwich for lunch!?"
Therefore, be it fat, sugar, carbs, protein, wine or beer - without spending the energy consumed, one will become fatter.
It is the calories that makes a person fatter. "So the more I eat the fatter I get?" Well yes and no. Yes, generally. But some individuals have genetics makeup for a high metabolism (rate of breaking substances to convert them into energy) - ie your skinny mate who eat and drink anything and still remain thin like a bamboo
As long as there were some amount of exercise, you should be fine. Depending on the body metabolism which varies in every individuals, exercise is quite effective. Just keep in mind, the sugar in the coffee, the soft drinks, alcohol, rice are rich in energy. If you dont use them (exercise, physical work), like it or not, you will get fat.
So stop looking at just 97% Fat Free but scrutinise the product label for Unsaturated Fat (Good Fat - for omega 6) and Saturated Fat (Bad Fat).
