MSN Messenger Virus Alert
Not long ago my good friend's MSN sent across some unusual messages. It looked normal, particularly from a friend - only to untrained eyes. MSN (and others like Yahoo) is a common favourite tool for worms (something like virus but not the same - for computer dummies benefit) as a launching pad to infect another host (YOU!).
It sends across a link to ALL that are listed in the contact list of the host MSN Messenger. Unsuspected dummies like most of you, will click it. Bam! You are infected with W32.Spybot. And the worm will take control, steal your cached password (for lazy-&-take-for-granted dummies, it is the saved password), perform key logging (again for dummies, I spell it out for you, it monitors your username and password sequence when you type on the keyboard and it focuses on ebay, bank, paypal and normal logins. Got your attention now?
When another good mate's MSN, who is another computer dummy equivalent, sent the above across prompted me to write a notice about it. Why do people still click a weird URL, ( for dummies URL = web address for example www.whyareyousobloodydumb.com/clickmeifyouaresostupid/yes-you-idiot.aspx ) without having a bit of common sense, still baffle me to the bloody core. Ok! Fine! You were duped! The victim like my mates are oblivious to all these malicious threats looming ahead and at some point of time, clicked a worm which disguised as a mate's message, and get infected as a result.
When he was warned, like many others he scrambled for his installed Anti Virus which is normally overrated and ineffective against worms and spywares. When one typical computer owner computer was asked what type of anti virus does he have, here is the typical answer.
- Norton Anti Virus
- Mcafee Anti VIrus
- I dont know.
Personally I dont know which one is the worst. :))
When it comes to tricky and awful worms and spyware, i would only recommend kaspersky or avast. I recommend it because I have personally used them. There are latest detection rate test to help you choose the right protection for you. Please, if you are using your computer for internet banking or work, spend that money to buy an original Anti Virus software and do not use free cracked copy, you could never be sure if they are working absolutely at its full potential. And they are only $60-$70 a year. Penny wise hefty pound foolish - it is better to spend that money then to spend the nights crying you eyeballs out (perhaps day time too) when you find out all of your $$$ were gone in the bank.
