Will Google in Black save the World?
I was cranky, sticky and desperate for an air condition room.
It was warm and balmy in NYC &
more than 80F (26C). Fully convinced that Antarctica ice has melted
just showed how much I was in disbelieved that NYC was at the end of
the first month of Autumn, NYC was HOT & Sticky! ARGH! I was
quickly becoming one of them; shirty, moody, irksome, easily irritable
- I have the most thinnest skin with shortest fuse.
Unless
someone could come up with a world-size reverse cycled air conditioner
to cool the earth, we have to settle for a quick fix. Which led me to
think about Google Black - Blackle.com.
I knew Blackle for sometime now. But could not be bothered to mention
it. Until someone made a search and visited my website through blackle.
Blackle was developed by an Aussie based firm to saves the
world (one of its many products). It is an idea based on a theory if
everyone is a small child or a global warming activist and uses Google
for search, we could save the world by consuming less energy. Blackle
has a black coloured background as opposed to all current top Search
Engine, they are white. Black, in general, comes in a form of darkness
where a object do not need energy to be black.
So
if everyone take heed to Al Gore's plea, we would all be using Blackle
to get the same result in Google search with less energy consumed by
the computer monitor. The world will pump out less CO2 and consume less
fuel like coal to generate energy to power the searches in the web.
But
there is one problem though, in order to show black in LCD, it has to
generate black. So black in this physical instance is a 'colour'. So
black in LCD is a colour not darkness. It is a form of light, where
energy would still be needed to generate the colour. Unlike the LCD
monitor, the CRT (the big fat bulky one) it switches off the pixel
light to generate black darkness hence less energy consumed.
With
the production cost of the LCD is plummeting to an affordability new
high. Most major cities in the world that top the computer or internet
usage have long upgraded CRT monitors to LCDs. (And a CRT generally
gulped more energy than a LCD).
Will someone come up with a
better idea? Maybe let's switch off all computer for an hour around the
world at the same time????? Bloody good idea!
Save the earth with the energy saving search engine.

There are around 25 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to www.cleanblack.com/theme/

Hi,
There is another black google site (www.labundi.com) with amber font color on black background. It is easier on the eyes than Blackle. Blackle font is too dark.
