Sydney Vs Melbourne - Score 0 : 5

Someone did a search query "How is it to live in Sydney". My website came in 4th in Google organic search. I am not sure if my website is sufficiently informative to be able to help. I almost tried to write an article that evolves around it until I had the opportunity to spend some time in Melbourne for a few days.

In the past, I visited Melbourne for a few times, but it always had been a short brief trip. This time I have 2 mates to catch up and show me around Melbourne CBD.

I am ready to say, Melbourne is by far, a better city.

Melbourne has a superior transport system than Sydney. Tram networks have coverage around and within the CBD like spider webs. Plus the urban train system to support higher mass commuter suburbans distribution into and from CBD. Oh you gotta feel so left out when you visit the city.  So the trams do the job within the CBD (outside as well) supported by train network around it. Trams look new, sleek and modern. The trains are the same. Sydney? Still stuck with high mass (I say bulky) transit around and within sydney. New trains are a rare sight, and to catch one is a mighty reward. Particularly in hot summer days, Sydney still utilises old un-air-conditioned trains. They are like packed sheeps in a truck, at peak hours. it is getting busier and, of course, worse. Melbourne 1 - Sydney 0

They recently opened a new train station, Southern Cross Station, sits just inches away from a NEW stadium, Telstra Dome! 56,000 seater with retractable sun-roof to spoil the Victorian AFL freaks from rain drops and sunburns exposure. The station looks like many in Germany.  Where do they get all the spaces from? Not even the most imaginative mind could imagine Sydney build one in the city. Melbourne 2- Sydney 0

Melbournians are far more relax, even in CBD. Men & women know their fashion - which really mean there is absolutely no bastardisation of any form of body garments - from scarfs to boots. They are able to get away from the norm by being 'normal'. By being themselves and made it look ridiculously easy. I haven't found anyone wearing the same sort of shit you can find in Sydney. ie matching blue satin tie with blue shirt or body fit untucked long sleeves rugged shirt. Predictable. Bah! Melbourne 3 - Sydney 0.

A few main streets block off every motor except electric-run Trams, turning streets into large promanades. Less car, less noise, less fumes. More healthier & happier people turn out and frolicking in the heart of Melbourne commercial centers run by healthier and happier proprietors. Makes lots of sense. Normal streets with motors are generous with space for pedestrians, big enough to fit two growing trees in between the path. Sydney, generally you have Pitt St and George st. That's it. Want anything more, catch a bus and travel outside city. (With no picture to show you, the scoreline would look soft if I have my camera battery charged) Melbourne 4 - Sydney 0.

With Sydney look battered and bruised, Melbourne lands a final crushing blow. It has more culture! Even Stevie Wonder could see that! Melbourne has more Euro feel than Sydney, which has already look like Hong Kong more than anything else with recent massive influx of Asians into CBD and nearby suburbs. It also rely on Asians along the World Towers and George St areas, for store variations, namely Giordano, Japanese tit-bits, HongKie breadshops. In Melbourne, you won't find have all these craps. Stroll down any streets, you'll see audacious stores banking on healthy commercial boom. You'll see a huge variety of stores from Vespa motorcycle shops to low margin computer stores. Then you'll have a chance to see plenty of renown arcades - occupied with lively antique, jewelry stores operate along side with cafes! And all these are available throughout weekends. You won't be able to find that in Sydney. Mostly closed with tails between their legs by 6pm Friday! Just ask the Santos.

Did I just hear someone muttering Opera House?

You started your comparison with a bad premise. That being, "How is it to live in Sydney". Predictably so, that is terribly English, and John would be most disappointed. Who was that someone, I hate to think....was it you. So your blog turned up tops in organic searrch for all those with bad English. Well done. And as for comparing the two cities, perhaps you are missing the point. You are making comparison points on the same thing. Transport, Asian community, fasion. etc. But perhaps this is not the way to go. The trasport in LA is shit, but in NY it is grea, and I love both places. But what is the point of this form of dierct comparison. Both are cities, but that is it. Just as an apple and an orange are both fruits. Some people like apples more than oranges, but never are the two compared. As is the case with cities, they comprise of unique experiences that are all to do with interaction with the individual. Let me think......Tasmanian has terrible transport, bad fashion, a stagnant economy, and the list goes on. But I really have a soft spot for the place. Please don't compare Melbourne to Tassy, because with your comparison points, it will lose. But having said all this, I loved your article and bring on the next.

Ouch! Bad English? I take that. But I think I will learn more from the grammatical & spelling mistakes in your comment. But hey, I give you a benefit of a doubt. You were in a hurry, you were so busy that you hardly have enough time to take any toilet break. Just like you hardly have enough time to even reply your steadfast mate. So the propensity for making tonnes of unforgivable grammar and spelling mistake is palpable - whilst correcting others.

First of all, search query recognises no shakespeare, mate. It won't discriminate (obviously you do) between those who can command good or bad English. You dont type " how is city of sydney going to fit for a 30 year old accountant with 3 wifes who wants to get away from all the rat race in Dubai " It's internet uneconomical. It is not a smart search. You just go " Sydney for accountant " then you narrow down with more specific searches

And about the city, you'll get over it. But you are not wrong. Why can't I compare? What if we have to make a choice ie relocate to another city. We can compare if we set common 'parameters' ie transport, cost of living, lifestyle etc of these cities. People make choices based on these common parameters. Based on your instance, Tasmania will lose outright. Quite inaccurate. If you have a choice to operate a business, and you can do it in Tassie, employ 200 ppl, you are rich. You will have no problem with those parameters, bcoz you have enough money to buy cars so transports is no problem, in fact you could invest a public transport system to improve it and make a good living out of it. And those 200 ppl have enough money to buy better fashion clothing under your guidance.

It is the common parameter to a normal set of human being. It cannot be wrong or right.
